HbA1c ↔ Average Glucose Converter
Convert an HbA1c result to estimated average glucose (eAG) in mg/dL and mmol/L — or the other way round.
About the conversion
HbA1c reflects your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months. This converter uses the formula from the ADAG study: eAG (mg/dL) = 28.7 × HbA1c (%) − 46.7. It also converts between % (NGSP) and mmol/mol (IFCC) units.
What the numbers mean
- Below 5.7% (39 mmol/mol): normal
- 5.7–6.4% (39–47 mmol/mol): prediabetes
- 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) or higher: diabetes range
Many adults with diabetes aim for below 7% (53 mmol/mol), but your target should be set with your care team.
